CROWDS donned their waterproofs and took to the streets in numbers for Ilkley Carnival's big parade through town on Saturday.
Uncertain weather failed to dampen the enthusiasm of those who took part and the people who turned out to watch.
The chosen theme of 'Our Environment' led to a host of original costumes and tableaux in a parade thought to be one of the longest in the event's history.
Winner of the Walking Tableau Award was Ben Rhydding Primary School - pictured here - with a topical theme of traffic congestion and speeding vehicles.
The display included children pedalling small cars to represent Ilkley's congestion, followed by youngsters in reflective clothing carrying road signs calling for motorists to stick to the 30mph limit.
They also promoted environmentally friendly alternatives, such as the school bus and an organised 'walking bus' of children in reflective tabards led by volunteer parents.
PTA chairman and school parent governor Heather Munro said: " It was fabulous for the children. They thoroughly enjoyed it. They felt part of a big community."
By the time the parade reached the carnival field, the isolated showers had disappeared.
