AFTER the disappointment of being skittled for a mere 49 on a badly affected wicket on Saturday Yeadon pulled off a Priestleuy Cup victory on Sunday.
It was a day of cup shocks with cup holders Pudsey Congs and neighbours Pudsey St Lawrence both going out of the competition.
This win will give Yeadon a boost and none more so than their young skipper Grant Soames.
With continued confusion over an overseas player, Chris Henry having departed on a world tour and Tony Gilks barely able to bowl due to arthritis Soames' bowling attack has been sadly depleted.
Yeadon have been grateful for last season's opening bowler John Roper coming out of retirement to help them out but it was Soames who stole the limelight on Sunday.
With Roper not available for the cup tie newcomer James Postill and Tony Gilks opened the bowling. Gilks had just one over before Soames replaced him and took 3-22 off 8.3 overs.
Harvey Anderson bowled a mean spell taking 1-9 off ten overs and Gulsharez Ahmed picked up 3-25 off ten as Saltaire were restricted to 141 all out.
Jon Carey also bowled a tidy spell with 1-20 off seven overs.
Yeadon made a poor start in reply losing Anderson run out for nine and fellow opener James Todd being caught for three. Ahmed and Dave Russell soon departed with seven runs apiece to their name, Jon Carey made just ten and Kevin Gilks went without scoring leaving Yeadon in deep trouble at 86-6.
Soames showed his mettle when he came in to make a superb unbeaten 62 to steer his side to victory with just two wickets and one over to spare. He was assisted at the close by Tony Gilks who hit a valuable 12 no
On Saturday Yeadon were put in on a wet wicket and although opener Harvey Anderson collected 17 runs the rest was just a procession with no other batsman reaching double figures. Last man John Roper showed some resistence with eight before falling to Ian Austin, who finished with 3-17.
The real bowling hero however was Fizal Irfan who claimed 7-24 off 17 excellent overs. Despite the rain Cleckheaton managed to negotiate a win at 50-1.
Yeadon Seconds had last minute replacement Cricket Chairman Les Wood to thank for their Priestley Shield win over Saltaire.
The veteran Wood took his place in the side with former Yeadon player Richard Machell taking Wood's place in the scorebox.
Wood top scored with 38 and Darren Machell made 26 but it was an all round effort that saw Yeadon finish on 174-7.
Former wicketkeeper Wood then took the ball to claim three wickets in his ten over spell as Saltaire were bowled out for 135, again a real team effort with Nick Darfield picking up three wickets, Steve Gilks two and Richard Wood and Dave Summerscales one apiece.
On Saturday the seconds gained a 14 runs win at Bankfoot after posting a score of 105-9. Young Richard Wood took the bowling honours with a 5-49 return as Bankfoot were dismissed for 91.
