THE Airedale and Wharfedale Cricket League programme was badly disrupted by wet weather on only the second week of the season.

Only two sides managed to defy the weather and forge victories and these were newly promoted Hall Park in Division A and Woodhouse in Division C.

Robert Murphy took advantage of a responsive wicket to produce a haul of six for 53 which reduced Collingham to 87 for seven. Number nine Oliver Driver blasted seven fours in a fine knock of 36 in a defiant last act which took his side to a final score of 120.

Hall Park soon lost opener Peter Kempton, caught behind off the first ball off the innings.

However, with Simon Wilson hitting an unbeaten 50 and Michael Elliott 52, the pair shared a stand of 89 for the second wicket, Park coasted to an eight wickets win.

Champions Adel looked set for a second successive defeat when dismissed for 135 by visitors Menston for whom South African Grant Bell took a fine six for 39.

Mike Dallaston (40) and fellow opener John Francas (35) were the main run scorers for Adel.

Menston made a fine effort to beat the weather but had to succumb at 102 for five after 33.3 overs when the game was abandoned.

Opener Richard Taylor had shown excellent form with a knock of 33 while skipper David Lester contributed 20 and Ned Taylor (19).

Guiseley were foiled by the bad light when in a good position against neighbours Green Lane.

Lane were dismissed for 122 with Mark Best and Chris Underwood each claiming three wickets and Marcus Brown, recalled in place of the injured Peter Graham, showing his worth with four for 30 off 14 overs. Lane's top scorer was their skipper Garfield Williams who made 45 before he was bowled by former Bradford and Bingley player Best.

Howard Reeve (36) and Chris Underwood (26 no) set the pace as Guiseley went in pursuit of their target but they were left kicking their heels when bad light stopped play.

An innings of 65 from Steve Phillips enabled Bilton to reach a score of 201-8 and he had excellent support from Mick Emmerson with 36 and Carl Heptinstall with 39. North Leeds replied with 76-3 in another game ruined by the weather.

Beckwithshaw produced three half-century makers in their game against Otley. Ben Quick (60) and Robert Wilkins (64) shared an opening stand of 121 with Quick hitting four sixes andfive fours and Wilkins three sixes and eight8 fours.

This was built on by number three Chris Cann, with six fours in his 50, and Paul Thompson with an unbeaten 31. Beckwithshaw closed on 229 for six after 46 overs but Otley's innings ended after just 18 overs.

They had reached 46 for one with skipper Robert Atkinson leading the way with an unbeaten 27 which included five fours.

Steeton's game at Follifoot was also ended by rain with Follifoot 91 for two in reply to 196 for seven.

Oliver Gledhill with an unbeaten 43 and Jonathan Smith with 48 led the Steeton run charge while for Follifoot opener Brian Smart made an unbeaten 46.
