THE age-old tradition of having a queen and attendants at Skipton Gala will be lost because organisers cannot find enough helpers to escort them on the day.

Gala committee member Glynn Beresford said he had been unable to find a chaperone and an assistant to take on the important roles.

The role of the gala queen and her attendants has been integral to the event for many years.

However, there is some good news - it seems the procession of floats will go-ahead on gala day, June 14.

The committee is currently in negotiations with the police regarding patrolling the procession which usually parades up Skipton High Street and along Gargrave Road to Aireville Park.

Members are also looking for at least 10 to 20 volunteers to help as marshals along the route. Anyone who can help should call Mr Beresford on 07966 505904.

Tickets for the gala are already on sale and can be bought from committee members, Skipton and Settle Tourist Information Centres and Skipton Town Hall.

This year each pre-day ticket will come with a raffle number and a prize draw will take place on gala day.

Main attractions will be James Dylan's Stuntworld with its motorcycle and car spectacular show. There will also be displays from the ever-popular Marsh Falconry, a clown, face painter, and a Punch and Judy show.

As usual local majorette groups will be strutting their stuff, there will be a vintage vehicle parade, fairground and music from local bands.
