A STRONG swirling wind spoilt the Jeff Hall Memorial Trophy final as a spectacle and both teams missed glorious chances.
David Nelson won the game for Bocking with a goal in the first half of extra time, and even after he had scored Three Horses missed at least three gilt-edged chances. Jack Holmes, president of the Keighley FA, presented the trophies.
New Variety Club and BCA met in the league as they battle it out for runners-up spot, and produced a cracking contest. BCA took a 3-0 lead in the first half, but in the second period New Variety fought back with three goals of their own. BCA grabbed another to secure a 4-3 victory and three valuable points.
Shoulder of Mutton made hard work of their 4-1 win over bottom of the league side Albert Hotel. The game had all the hallmarks of one game too many for both teams. Shoulder's scorers were Graham Whittaker (2), Wilf Carty and Dave Harman.
The Fleece, Cullingworth, should have had the Sun-Oaklee dead and buried by half time. They missed chances when it looked easier to score and although the stand-in keeper had little to do he gifted Sun-Oaklee a goal on the one occasion he was called into action.
Even after that Fleece had more chances, but could only take advantage of one with a great shot from 20-yards out to draw level.
In the second period Sun came more into the game and a second error by the Fleece keeper gifted them the winner.
The two matches this coming weekend could decide who is runner-up as BCA Utd take on Bocking and Sun-Oaklee travel to face Bingley Town.
Juniors bounce
back
Long Lee Juniors bounced back from their Keighley & District Cup defeat with an 8-2 victory in the Craven League Cup quarter-final at Menston. Scorers were Sam Rooke (2), Matthew Miller (2), James Bailey, Joe Park, James Smail and an own goal.
