Keighley got off to a poor start in the Bradford Union Scratch League's first match of the season on Friday, losing their Division 1 match 6-2 at Bradford Moor. Bingley St Ives also suffered a setback, going down 3-5 at home to Baildon.
In the third division Branshaw won 6-2 at home to West Bowling, while Silsden had a good 6-2 win at Headley. Riddlesden got off to a flying start in Division 4 with an 8-0 drubbing of visitors East Bierley, and Bracken Ghyll had a good 5-3 win at Ben Rhydding.

Keighley - The Ladies Daily Mail pair of Elaine Pearson (6) and Cheryl Brown (13) have progressed to the third round by beating Settle at home. The Ladies played the Dinsdale Foursomes and a qualifying round for the LGU Coronation Foursomes on Tuesday. Dinsdale Foursomes: 1 Janet O'Neill and Norma Peace 76.5, 2 Sue Hey and Janet Lowe 77. Coronation Foursomes: 1 Val Churchman and Sue Holmes 78, 2 Elaine Pearson and Pauline Brook 78.5.
On Saturday members competed for the Sir Frederick Butterfield Trophy, a 4BBB strokeplay competition. The winners with a superb net 61 were R Northrop and AJ Smith, and runners-up were P Waterhouse and M Waterhouse with a net 62. Brian Appleyard also had cause to celebrate with a hole-in-one on the second hole, the second time he has scored an 'ace' at the hole.
"There have been rumours that it went in off a tree, but they are not true," Brian said.
On Sunday the Bradford Foursomes were played at Keighley. The course was in superb condition with competitors commenting that they were the best greens they had played on so far this year. 1 G Evans and A Town (Northcliffe) 72, 72; 2 P Pethybridge and A Harding (Skipton) 74,74; 3 P Crosby and T Wright (Shipley) 76,73.

Yeadon-based charity Epilepsy Action is appealing to businesses for teams of golfers to take part in a fundraising golf day on June 25.
The Team Golf Challenge, now in its third year, is supported by Bentley Jennison Chartered Accountants and last year's winners Yorkshire Bank.
Company teams are invited to enter a team of four players in the event which is being held at Huddersfield Golf Club. The cost of the golf day (£450 per team plus VAT) includes the 18 hole competition, refreshments and a prize dinner presentation with after dinner speaker.
The top three individual players from the challenge will be invited to take part in Britain's biggest corporate golfing event at the regional finals of the Times JP Morgan Fleming challenge held in October.
