CELEBRATIONS continued through the night after Silsden clinched the County Cup trophy -- for the second year.

After securing a 2-0 victory over Barnoldswick Town, Silsden players and supporters returned to the Robin Hood pub and continued celebrating until dawn.

"When the pub closed we went back to the home of Stuart McNulty, and when he gave up and went to bed we continued on to the home of one of the players.

"The last of us finally got home at 8am, but only because we were famished -- and couldn't find a cafe open to cook us breakfast," said coach Andy Geary.

He added: "I think we disturbed the sleep of one or two people, but winning the title twice has been a fantastic achievement for the club and I hope they will forgive us."

The team went through the competition scoring 36 goals - and conceded just one.

In many ways the final at the West Riding FA's Woodlesford ground, near Leeds, was far from a showpiece game.

The Barnoldswick team enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half, but despite that rarely threatened in attack. By half time they were 2-0 down and Silsden were determined not to do anything to risk that lead.

"We were ahead and we were not going to do anything which would give Barnoldswick the slightest chance. Some of the spectators said United were a disappointing team, but credit must go to the Silsden defence, they didn't give them a chance."

Now their aim is to capture the County Amateurs championship title -- and complete the league season without losing a game.

Gavin Finn gave their hopes a massive boost on Wednesday night with a spectacular 25-yard goal which secured the vital 1-0 victory over title challengers Brighouse Town.

Silsden went through the Craven League unbeaten four years ago and aim to complete a clean sweep in the County Amateurs on Saturday when they meet Otley Town at home in the final league game of the season.

After Wednesday night's victory they only need one point to make sure of the championship, but are out to complete the campaign in style.

If they win they will be the first team to go through a County Amateur League season unbeaten since Salts almost 50 years ago, in the 1954-55 season.

For Saturday's game they will be returning from their new home at Cougar Park to play at Silsden.

"We hope that as many people as possible will come down and enjoy the celebrations. It has ben a fantastic year throughout the club," said Stuart McNulty.

For Silsden FC there has been much more to celebrate than even the County Cup victory. Throughout the club from the youngest junior team they have been enjoying an incredible year of success with silverware piled high in the trophy cabinet.

At senior level they have won the Keighley Cup, Keighley FA Supplementary Cup, and Keighley FA Sunday Cup together with the County Challenge Cup.

The first team still have the County Amateur League Cup final to play. They will meet Wibsey next Friday (May 16) at Brighouse Town's ground at 7.15pm.
