SCHOOL SPORT: St Bede's Gymnastics Club have maintained their proud tradition - begun seven years ago when they were formed - of producing county champions.
Martha Sangster has become overall Yorkshire under-11 novice champion, while Katie Gawthorp has won the identical title for under-tens.
Clubmate Chelsie Couldwell was fourth in the under-ten novices, and all three have been chosen for the Yorkshire Regional Development squad, which trains each month at the Gymnastics Centre of Excellence at Carnegie in Leeds.
Club membership has now grown to such an extent (it currently stands at 120) - that the club are now looking for their own premises.
"We need a bigger premises so that the girls - our members are mainly the girls - can do a full floor exercise," said Denise Couldwell, who is in charge of fund-raising at the club.
"Ultimately we would like to buy our own premises, hence the need for fund-raising, which takes place throughout the year, and sponsorship."
Members come from all over the Bradford and Leeds area, and there are five qualified British Gymnastics Association coaches and numerous voluntary helpers.
One of the coaches is former Yorkshire and British tumbling champion Vicky Speight.
The club is run on a voluntary basis, and also holds fund-raising events so they can purchase new equipment.
If any company or individual wishes to sponsor the club or make a donation, they should contact Mary Foster at St Bede's Grammar School, Highgate, Heaton, BD9 4BQ.
The club also runs weekly sessions for St Cuthbert's Primary School with help from St Bede's GS.
