A Cleckheaton school's drive to raise £50,000 for a specialist college bid has been boosted by £10,000.

Whitcliffe Mount School is aiming to become a Business and Enterprise College and needs the cash to submit its bid in October.

The A M Fenton Trust has pledged the single biggest donation to date, bringing the total raised so far to £29,000.

The school's connection with the Trust is via Charles Fenton who is also a trustee of the Whitcliffe Mount School Scholarship Trust.

"To receive a pledge of this magnitude spurs us on to secure the remaining £20,000," said head teacher Alan Davis.

"I am extremely grateful to Mr Fenton and all those associated with the Trust. Their help is greatly appreciated."

The school would like to hear from local firms who are keen to establish links, those that are able to pledge cash and those who are interested in business-related training run by the school.
