Bradford pupils are putting their hearts and souls into an exciting art competition being run by the Telegraph & Argus and Education Bradford.

Children at Ley Top Primary School, Avenel Road, Allerton, have been working on their entries for the competition, which is linked to Bradford International Festival.

It is based on the festival theme of love.

And the work submitted will go on display in Bradford city centre during the festival, from June 12 to June 22.

Ley Top head teacher Janet Grayshon said young people should take part in art, music and drama to give them a balanced curriculum.

"It is really important that children learn to become creative," she said.

"It helps them to develop socially and emotionally.

"They need the arts as well as academic subjects."

The competition involves young people creating paintings or drawings.

Graham Cox, Education Bradford's strategic manager for music, arts and sport, said: "The competition is an exciting opportunity for young people to express themselves."

The best entries will earn pupils a Sony EJ750 personal CD player worth £69.99, donated by Sunwin House, Bradford, and art equipment donated by Probyns stationery and office products in Bradford.

Schools are being asked to make sure that the work is A4 in size and that all entries are received by Friday, May 16, at the latest.

Entries for the contest should be sent to Festival Art Compet-ition, c/o Deborah Nicholson, Telegraph & Argus, Hall Ings, BD1 1JR.
