A gunman known as "Killer" shot a rival in the leg as he sat in a friend's sports car after a two-day intimidation campaign, the Old Bailey heard yesterday.

Mohammad Anwar, 24, who has the street name Big Adds, opened fire on cowering Sharaz Ahmed, 20, after challenging him to a fight, the court heard.

Anwar, of Wanstead Park Road, Ilford, denies attempted murder and unlawful wounding on April 18 last year. He also denies having a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Anwar claims he was in Bradford at the time of the shooting.

Prosecutor Brendan Kelly said the incidents started on April 16 when Mr Ahmed received a phone call saying: "I am going to get all you boys - I am Big Adds."

The next evening Mr Ahmed was outside a fast food shop in Forest Gate, London, when he was confronted by an Asian man. Mr Kelly said he accused Mr Ahmed of having sworn at Adds and followed him, with three or four others and began to punch and kick him.

Mr Ahmed ran into a hairdressers shop, followed by the gang armed with knives and an axe. He escaped with a small stab wound to his leg.

The next day he was approached by a man while sitting in his friend's Honda sports car. Mr Kelly said the man drew a handgun and a bullet entered Mr Ahmed's leg.

The court heard the gunman fled but was spotted by two passers-by who later picked him out at an identity parade.

Another witness identified Anwar as the man who showed him a handgun just minutes after the shooting. The man said he knew him by his nickname, "Killer Adds".

Anwar later handed himself in and told police he had been in Bradford buying a windscreen for his Toyota Jeep and didn't leave Yorkshire until 30 minutes before the attack. He denied using the name Big Adds or Killer Adds.

The trial continues.
