Bradford-born car group JCT 600 is to invest more than £10 million in the city over the next two years.

And that figure doesn't include the £4 million-plus already being poured into the new BMW dealership taking shape on Sticker Lane, a replacement for the Oak Lane base burned down in the riots of 2001.

JCT 600 chief executive John Tordoff said the new base will eventually become one of the biggest BMW sites in the country.

Mr Tordoff, grandson of the founder of Tordoff Motors Limited which eventually became JCT 600, said the massive £10 million-plus investment would come in refurbishment and relocation for the business's portfolio of dealerships across the city.

"A lot of our dealerships are due refurbishment - some will get that and some will be relocated," Mr Tordoff said.

The Mini and BMW dealership opposite the company's headquarters in Sticker Lane will open next month on a three-acre site.

And there could be more JCT 600 garages to come.

"A whole host of manufacturers are wanting to expand with us and that includes some people we don't currently deal with," he said.

The car firm is developing its business and expanding its operations. By the end of the year the company will have 24 operations - with a target of 30 dealerships as its optimum.

Mr Tordoff said the company was aiming to "become the best rather than the biggest" in the sector.

"Every one of our partners wants to go forward with us and a lot of others want to expand with us," Mr Tordoff said.

The company, which this year hopes to make a net profit of £10 million, is also looking beyond Bradford to expand its range.

JCT dealerships are sprouting up in South Yorkshire to add to those in the west of the county and a Porsche showroom in Newcastle.

But Mr Tordoff said the company would never stray too far from its roots in Bradford.

"I can never see us going 100 miles beyond West Yorkshire."

And that includes the City of London.

"We are a private family company that doesn't want to be a PLC," he said.
