A civic reception was held at City Hall for members of the Jubilee Committees throughout the Bradford area who had helped to double the target the area was set to raise in Jubilee year. Almost £115,000 has been raised and the target was £55,000. The Lord Mayor, Coun. Paul Hockney, said he was delighted and thrilled with the efforts that had been made by people in Bradford and the money will got to a lasting project in the shape of a youth camp.

Because a ten-year-old Keighley schoolboy had made the discovery that the glass "cat's eyes" from the rubber studs in the centre of the road could be used as magnifying lenses he and three friends, aged eight, nine and 11, stole 20 of them, valued at 10 shillings in Halifax Road. At the Children's Court today, the boys admitted the offence and were given conditional discharges.
