Yorkshire 30
Lancashire 32
AN error-strewn display by Yorkshire saw them concede this Roses clash at Otley's Cross Green and with it a place in the semi-finals of the County Championship.
Yorkshire still had a chance to win deep into stoppage time but skipper Glen Wilson chose to pick up and drive rather than let full-back Ed Smithies or replacement fly-half Lee Cholewa take a pot with drop goal attempts.
Both were lined up close to the Lancashire posts when Wilson made what proved to be the wrong call.
Yorkshire mistakes were punished all afternoon by the Red Rose men, none more so than at the line-out where John Lawn was again having difficulty in finding his jumpers.
Yorkshire went behind after just 90 seconds when Lancashire claimed a line-out on the 22 and Sean Casey strode through to give co-centre Paul Bailey a simple run in. Glynn added the conversion.
Yorkshire's reply was immediate and Lawn scored a try after a good forward drive with fly-half Rob Liley adding the conversion.
Lancashire's Jalo Vanderventer was sent to the sin-bin and in his absence Otley scrum-half Andy Brown went over and Liley again converted.
Yorkshire were pulled back by a couple of penalties from Glynn, the second when Brown tried a quick tap penalty on the visitors 22. His pass was snapped up by the returned Vanderventer who raced down the wing. Although he was caught a penalty was conceded.
A penalty from Liley edged Yorkshire four points ahead but another turnover on half-way proved costly. Fly-half Rob Hitchmough broke through and Dave McCormack finished well with Glynn's conversion securing a useful interval lead.
Three minutes into the second-half and the lead was extended when second row Erik Lund drove through the middle and with two simple passes Bailey was in for his second try.
Liley pegged it back with two further penalties and this was followed by a penalty try, this time converted by his replacement Cholewa.
Yorkshire however were unable to hang on and John Broxson put Oliver Viney away on a run to the corner. Glynn's conversion took Lancashire into a narrow two point lead which they were not to relinquish.
Otley had four players in the starting line-up in Mark Kirkby, Will Darby, Andy Brown and Paul Williams while Mark Luffman came on as a 60th minute replacement.
