Keighley Bowling Club members have maintained their grip on the Skipton Spring Doubles title with Richard Hargreaves and Phil Anderson picking up the trophy.
In the final at Whinfield they beat Broughton Road bowlers Craig Lambert and Darrell Gore 21-14. Among the losing semi-finalists were Mick Bastow and Andy Abell.
Cross Roads A continued their domination of the Hebden Sunday Morning knockout as they defeated Hebden Royd Park B at Luddendenfoot after overcoming stubborn resistance. Scott Bairstow helped them on their way with a 21-6 victory, and the only player with a red face after the win was skipper Neil Hargreaves, who was the only loser.
The Vets Inter-District team made their usual start to the season, losing away at Horton and at Devon where only Colin Wortley and debutante Donald Varley, now coached by Roy Sanderson, were successful. The next match is on May 23.
The Skipton League is now in full flow and Keighley A are dominated Division One, ahead of Silsden Playing fields A. Whins Wood bring up the rear and seem in disarray, but there is a long way to go.
Oakworth lead Division Two by by a narrow margin with seven points separating nine clubs. Silsden PF C remain detached at the bottom.
Sutton B and Cross Hills B are well to the fore in Division Three with plucky Addingham C already adrift.
This weekend's action begins at Cononley tonight when in-form Skipton take on Aire-Wharfe in the Inter-District game at 7pm.
The Yorkshire Cup continues on Saturday with games for Oakworth (v Moldgreen Cons at Wibsey), Cross Roads (v Illingworth Libs at Longwood), Devon (v Knowles Park at Mytholmroyd WMC), Whinfield (Longwood A at Green Royd) and Sutton. Broughton Road get a bye in the Henry Taylor cup.
The first of the Ryecroft Trophy preliminary rounds is to be held at the Broughton Road Club on Sunday in a competition which will see many top players on view throughout the summer.
The Keighley Merit is also due to take place at Whins Wood on Sunday, but is several players shot of going ahead, contact Brian Harrison as soon as possible.
The first of the County Parks matches also takes place on Sunday when Yorkshire meet Wales. The home leg is being played at Silsden PF.
