A MINUTE'S silence in memory of the those who died in the Bradford City fire disaster was well observed as a good crowd gathered for the New Bridge Garage Sunday Cup final between Sandy Lane and Horsforth St Margaret's.
Horsforth took the game to Sandy Lane and grabbed the lead from a free kick after 15 minutes when the ball seemed to deceive the Sandy lane keeper and nestled in the bottom corner of the net.
Sandy lane bounced back immediately and within five minutes they were level when the league's leading scorer, Richard Hibbert, slotted home. With minutes to go before half time Hibbert scored a second to give Lane a slender half time lead.
The second half saw Horsforth on the attack as they pushed forward for an equaliser, but the Sandy lane defence held firm and the full time whistle came, bringing Sandy Lane another trophy as they completed a league and cup double.
n There are still a few vacancies for new teams to join the league next season as the league is to run two divisions. Any team interested in joining the league should contact Bob Moye on 01274-415854.
