Busan Icons have until Thursday to confirm they will be joining City's centenary celebrations.
Managing director Shaun Harvey has given the South Korean club a deadline as he firms up the Valley Parade pre-season tournament on July 26-27.
Harvey has just returned from a week of talks in the Far East and is optimistic the K-League side will agree to take part.
He said: "We had a good discussion over what the tournament is about and now we're waiting for their decision.
"The only issue to resolve is that the weekend concerned is the end of their mid-season break. They are due to play games on that Saturday and the following Wednesday.
"But Busan have previously intimated that the K-League would give them special dispensation to put those fixtures back.
"We do expect the K-League to confirm because this would be great exposure for Korean football."
If Busan say yes, it is likely that City will schedule their matches for 11.30am kick-offs for live TV coverage in South Korea where it would be 7.30pm prime time. Broadcasting fees would cover the cost of bringing the team over.
Aberdeen, who are also celebrating their centenary, could confirm their place today in the four-team competition. And City are close to naming the other foreign opposition - Paris St Germain, Austria Vienna and Schalke have all been approached.
