Otley moved up to third place in Division A after claiming two points from a losing draw in the only Aire-Wharfe League fixture to be completed last weekend.

Steeton and Otley were determined to play despite the heavy rain that dogged the region over the weekend and agreed on a 22-over contest.

Alex Howarth gave Steeton a solid start by hitting 36 before Jon Smith came in and cracked 26 not out to help the home side to an impressive 99 for four from their allotted overs.

In reply, Sam Smith top-scored with 29 for Otley only for Steeton paceman Andrew Dalby to ensure the home side finished short of their winning target. The Aussie bowled through to finish with four for 49 from 11 overs as Otley's innings ended just seven runs adrift of Steeton's total with three wickets in hand.

That was enough to earn Otley two points to leap four places up to third place in the league table with nine points.

Leaders Menston have 14 points and Beckwithshaw a point less after the potentially mouth-watering clash between the top two was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Steeton claimed four points from a winning draw to move two places up to eighth.

In Division B, only one game started and that had to be abandoned with Ilkley on just seven for none against Rawdon.

Skipton and Bolton Villas managed ten overs in Division C before rain forced an abrupt end.

All the other 15 scheduled games in the Aire-Wharfe League were abandoned without a ball being bowled.
