Paul Deacon looks set to return to action for the crunch tie against Leeds after overcoming a massive sight fright.

The Bulls scrum half was given the all-clear by a specialist after an elbow in the eye from team-mate Jamie Peacock left him partially-blinded in one eye and scared for his long-term vision.

He left the field after 32 minutes of the emphatic victory over Hudders-field on Sunday a major doubt for the Odsal cup final re-run in two days' time, but now looks set to resume kicking duties.

"The only way I can describe it what happened to my eye as like looking through tracing paper," said Deacon, who still has a massively dilated right pupil this week after taking strong eye drops.

"I took a knock from JP's elbow and I just couldn't see properly.

"I played on for about 15 minutes but my vision was terrible and I was beginning to get really worried.

"I wasn't even thinking about the Leeds game, all I could think was 'what have I done to my eye, why can't I see properly?'".

There were initial fears he may have detached a retina but on Monday a specialist gave him the all-clear.

Deacon also survived a scare when he was stretchered off earlier in the season at Odsal after a painful-looking collision with a Wakefield opponent's knee. He returned the following week after that incident too.

With Leon Pryce (suspension), Mick Withers and Stuart Fielden all out of the clash on Friday, Brian Noble will be delighted at the expected return of his diminutive scrum half, who has already kicked 76 goals this season.

There was also good news regarding wingers Tevita Vaikona (back) and Lesley Vainikolo (ankle and dead leg) who both look set to return on Friday.

The only serious doubt is forward Rob Parker, who is struggling with a badly swollen ankle, while hooker Jimmy Lowes is set to return after being rested for the 52-6 victory at the McAlpine on Sunday.

The capacity of Odsal has been increased to 26,019 ahead of the clash with Leeds.

The club will have their new corporate hospitality suite in use for the first time as they seek to break their own Super League attendance record of 24,020.

Bulls media manager Stuart Duffy said: "With the new hospitality suite coming into use this week and the work undertaken by the club since the return to Odsal, we are delighted that the Council's Safety Team have allowed us an increase in capacity.

"We are already the country's best supported rugby club and we will be looking to increase our average attendance on Friday."
