Andy Tod will find out in the next 48 hours if he is staying with Dundee United.
But the indications are that the on-loan City defender will be released by boss Ian McCall, who has already freed ten of his squad.
It would throw Tod's future up in the air once again. He still has another year left on his Valley Parade contract but City would have to fork out £25,000 in an appearance clause to his former club Dunfermline if they play him again.
Both parties will be hoping that Tod has done well enough in his spell back in Scotland to tempt an offer from another club.
Tod has been a regular during his four months at Tannadice, playing 12 games and scoring twice. But former Bantams player McCall is planning a summer clear-out and has already lined up Andy Paterson from Partick as a possible replacement.
City have finalised their pre-season dates in Scotland. After several changes of opposition, they will now face Falkirk on Saturday, July 19 and Raith Rovers three days later.
City will also go to Barnsley on August 2 if they cannot arrange a home game with Premiership opposition on the same day.
