Parents have taken to the streets in Bramhope to start the village's first walking bus.
More then 15 youngsters have joined the scheme, which started on Monday, and it is hoped that traffic in the village will be reduced.
Mother-of-two Debra Hartley and her friend Tracy Cratchley have set up the scheme to stop traffic around Bramhope Primary School and to make children healthier by walking.
The walking bus runs from 8.20am to 8.50am Monday to Friday and the organisers are urging more people to join.
"We want to stop the amount of traffic around the school, parking is a problem and it is a risk to children," said Debra.
"We are hoping more children will join the scheme to reduce traffic and it will keep them fit.
"If it is a success we will be trying to set up another walking bus in the village."
Ten parents have volunteered to run the walking bus on a rota system and so far 16 children have signed up to the scheme. It is been run in association with road safety officers from Leeds City Council, who have met with parents to plan the route.
