SAFARIS in Kenya may be off limits, but there's a whole host of wild animals waiting to be discovered in malham.
The village hosts its first safari trail over half term next week, starting tomorrow (Saturday), with handmade animals of all descriptions on view.
There are giraffes, lions, tigers, hippos, camels, a vulture, crocodiles, rhino, water buffalo, monkeys of all types, zebra, snakes and even a seven feet high Tarzan for visitors to spot. Butterflies, bugs, a flamingo and all sorts of other imaginative jungle ideas can also be seen.
A safari trail is on sale with a quiz boasting a first prize of £100 and £50 for the runner-up.
Most households in Malham have made animals and entered into the spirit of the event, which will raise funds for three local causes - St Michael the Archangel parish church at Kirkby Malham, Kirkby Malham Primary School and Malham Chapel.
One of the organisers, Bill Bland, told the Herald: "The organ needs replacing at the church and there is an ongoing restoration appeal, the school is building a new classroom and the chapel will also benefit from extra funds.
"This event will provide some light-hearted entertainment for both visitors and locals alike and will help the regeneration of the local economy within the village and surrounding area.
"We hope that people will visit Malham and enjoy the safari experience."
