RAIN completely wrecked the J P Mewies Craven & District Cricket League programme last weekend, with no matches managing to beat the elements in Saturday's league fixtures and only a couple of games being completed the following day in the Cowling Cup.

Just two games reached the second innings on Saturday, which was remarkable given the volume of rain that fell on Friday and Saturday morning, while three more managed a dozen overs.

In the Second Division, Glusburn entertained Airedale and batted first to reach 165, with Alan Thornley making 32 and Alan Coney 31 as Giles Wilmore claimed 4-61. The Keighley sides reply had reached 50-2 when players and umpires decided they had had enough and stumps were drawn at 7-15pm.

Sutton, at home to Cononley, managed to reach 22 without loss when play stopped.

In the Fourth Division, Gargrave, who were at Carleton playing Long Lee III, batted first and posted 89. Opener Robert Storr top scored with 22 as Kelvin Doane took 7-31 in 9.3 overs. The Keighley side lost a wicket without a run on the board, then progressed to 15-1 when play halted.

On Sunday, only the games at Gargrave and Morton managed to beat the weather. The other ten will now take place on Sunday, as originally drawn, with the exception of Thornton v Haworth which will take place at the latter's ground.

At Gargrave, the home side were put in by Denholme and found runs hard to accumulate. They were dismissed in 26 overs for a lowly 42, Wilkinson taking 5-21 off his allotted 12 overs and Swidrack 3-12.

The visitors didn't have it all their own way, losing five wickets in reaching their target in the 24th over. Robert Storr bowled tightly to finish with 3-7 off 11 overs.

At Street Lane, Ingrow St John's batted first against Long Lee III and were restricted to 96 all out, with Alan Hargreaves top scoring with 39 as Razak claimed 4-16.

The Keighley side put up a brave fight before going down by 23 runs. Chris Batch was the most successful bowler, taking 5-14.

Denholme meet the winners of the Pendle Forest III v Oakworth match, while Ingrow St John's await the victors from the Embsay v Foulridge game.
