THE continued atrocious weather conditions played havoc with the Airedale and Wharfedale League programme at the weekend and clubs can only hope for better things over the Bank Holiday when there is a double programme.

The only game that produced a result on Saturday was that between Steeton and their visitors Otley.

Steeton batted first and made 99-4 off their 22 overs.

They soon lost opener Greenwood for five but Alex Howarth (36) got into his stride and together with Jonathan Smith (26 no) was able to set some sort of target.

Otley's Australian recruit Andrew Burke bowled all 11 overs at one end taking 2-38.

Otley set about their task in style with opener Sam Smith, the former Illingworth player, making 29 before being caught by N Wilson off the bowling of Australian Andrew Dalby.

David Brady (12) and Burke (17) offered some support but in the main it was a struggle as Dalby claimed 4-49 off 11 overs and Smith 2-41 off 11. Otley finished on 92-7 to take two points from a drawn game with Steeton taking four.

Play did start at Rawdon for what it was worth. A massive mopping up operation ended with just three overs being played before rain finally stopped play.

Ilkley were batting and had reached 7-0 with their Australian Simon Stolcman surely wondering where he has landed.

Play also started in the second team's Division C game at Colton. There the home side faced the Bardsey bowling attack and made 53-1 off 15.4 overs before the game was ended. Opener D Chalk had made an unbeaten 29 and G Precious 17 no.

Clubs will be hoping for a better deal from the weather this weekend as they face a double programme with games on Saturday and Monday.

Promoted Hall Park are set to entertain champions Adel on Saturday while Menston will be hoping to continue their good form against Follifoot. The pick of Monday's games sees Otley entertain Guiseley.
