A long-distance runner has raised more than £1,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service after competing in a 10k race.
Peter Mitchell, 62, completed the Sandal 10k race at Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield, on Sunday, in just over 47 minutes.
The Cononley man said: "I did really well and was pleased with my time. It was about eight minutes faster than I expected.
"So far I have raised exactly £1,000 from 400 sponsors and I am dead chuffed with that. Hopefully, it will be more than that in the end because I have another three or four sheets still to come back."
The race has been run every year since 1998 and continues to expand, with this year's entry up by more than 200.
The entrants run for the race's designated charity, which this year was the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Peter, who owns Dogsbody and Friends pet shop in Silsden, added: "It was a really good day, especially because the sun stopped out long enough for us to all get around and finish.
"The event was absolutely great and it was a wonderful place. It is well worth a visit at any time. The course wasn't exactly flat, despite being run around a lake. It was very undulating when you veered across a few fields.
"And there was a really good atmosphere, with somebody all the way around the course, with even a couple of brass bands and other people playing instruments across the field.
"A lot of work had gone into it and it deserved to be a success."
Peter will be running the Race for Life, in Roundhay Park, Leeds, next month and has entered his ninth Great North Run this September.
He said: "I would also like to thank all my sponsors, including those who came forward after they read the story in the Keighley News. The support has been magnificent."
