housing tenants could be rewarded for their spadework.
An annual garden competition, formerly staged by the council, is being held for the first time by the Bradford Community Housing Trust Group (BCHT).
Any tenants can take part and there is a new category this year for the best environmental project, for which a plot that benefits a community - such as a communal garden or allotment - is eligible.
There is also a special section for young gardeners.
The contest is open to gardens of all sizes, even window boxes and hanging baskets.
Entry forms are being sent to every tenant with the latest BCHT newsletter, but they can also be obtained by phoning 01274 431080 or 01274 433975.
The closing date for applications is June 7. Judging takes place next month and all entrants will be invited to a presentation evening later in the year.
BCHT Group chairman Martin Smith said: "With 25,000 houses, everyone can make a show of their garden - whether they are tenants, schools, allotment holders, or just proud of their skills with window boxes."
