A man who was married at Airedale Hospital after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, died this week, little more than a fortnight after his wedding day.
Michael Bartley, who married Carol Bradshaw on May 7, died peacefully on Tuesday morning at Manorlands hospice with his friends and family around him.
Michael, 56, was admitted to hospital less than three weeks ago, having been diagnosed with a bladder cancer, which spread to his heart.
Having been told the cancer was inoperable, Michael (pictured above) proposed to Carol from his bed. The pair were married with more than 50 guests present in the day-room on ward one.
He was later transferred to the Sue Ryder Care centre, Manorlands hospice, Oxenhope, at his own request.
Michael, who ran his own plumbing business, was born in Bradford and moved to Keighley six years ago after the pair had met.
Carol, 61, said: "Michael enjoyed his work and enjoyed life - he was a little adventurous. He liked the outdoor life including fishing and boats.
"The wedding was a lovely day. But it has been very difficult since because everything happened very quickly towards the end."
Michael, who had been married twice before, leaves behind three sisters and one brother.
His funeral is being held at St Francis Roman Catholic Church, Five Lane Ends, Eccleshill, today and he will be laid to rest next to his father.
