The recently formed Aire Valley Racing Team has celebrated its launch with first and second place in a gruelling 33-mile road race.
Matthew Denby, in only his second race after knee surgery, secured the win with the help of team mates, Tim Gill, who finished second, and Richard Simmons who made much of the early pace.
Matthew and Tim rode much of the race as part of a ten man leading group and were able to use their strength and experience to triumph over the rest of the 40-strong main pack.
With as little four miles to go the leading group of 10 were vying for position when one racer attacked and gained a small lead. Tim was able to close the gap while Matthew policed the leading group which had been whittled down to just seven riders as the pace increased.
After a strong chase by Wakefield CC rider, Nigel Haigh, the leaders came back together on the final climb to the finish. Matthew took his opportunity and put in a ferocious attack to pull away from the group taking the victory salute from a cheering crowd. Tim proved stronger than the followers and came in close behind Matthew to secure the Aire Valley one-two.
The team's main sponsor, Bernie Burns, owner of Aire Valley Cycles in Keighley said: "It was a superb ride, and I hope the team goes from strength to strength.
Any young riders interested in joining the team, either for road racing, mountain biking or cyclo-cross should contact Aire Valley Cycles for more information.
