The Bulls leapfrogged Leeds at the top of Super League with an awesome destruction of their arch-rivals.

In front of more than 21,000 screaming fans, Bradford put on a near-immaculate display of attacking rugby as the Rhinos were crushed by a 48-22 scoreline that did not reflect their dominance.

Four tries in each half by the Bulls, including two for wingers Lesley Vainikolo and Tevita Vaikona, helped Bradford take the spoils in front of the Sky TV cameras.

Leeds, whose post cup-final comments had riled the Bulls, were outplayed by a rampant Bradford outfit who were 38-6 up just before the hour mark and playing devastating rugby.

The balmy night at Odsal also witnessed the opening of the new corporate hospitality suite at the ground, as the Bulls took a giant step forward off the field.

The mouthwatering derby was played out in front of Super League's second-biggest crowd and the atmosphere was unbelievable throughout.

"That was a real rugby league event," said a delighted but relaxed Brian Noble in the post-match press conference.

"It was a special showpiece occasion and I think we provided entertainment. This is a great stadium, isn't it? And it is at its best when it is full."

It was the Bulls 13th win on the trot but the coach was attempting to play down the importance of the win despite his side going top of the league.

"We were impressive and I am delighted," said Noble.

"I thought we were very good with the ball and I think most of the things they got, we gave them.

"But there is a long way to go and it is about two points.

"We have been improving week by week since the first game of the season, when we got our backsides kicked by a similar score (at St Helens)."

And forward Jamie Peacock, who narrowly missed out on a cup final man-of-the-match medal when the two sides met in Cardiff, shared Noble's caution.

"It feels really good to be on top," he said. "We aim to stay in the top two to have the best chance of getting into the Grand Final."
