The Spring Bank Holiday weekend did not get into the record books for its weather, but it did attract record numbers to the Yorkshire coast. While temperatures stoped at around 24 degrees centigrade, more that 250,000 people passed through Scarborough, with nearly as many at Bridlington. At Lister Park, Bradford, nearly 4,000 people went through the turnstiles to cool themselves in the open air swimming pool.

OUR READERS' VIEWS: "Should smoking be allowed in a doctor's waiting room? As a sufferer of bronchitis I had occasion to visit a doctor's surgery. Sixteen people were already there. The room was full of tobacco smoke. Seven people were smoking cigarettes. I had to come out because of continued coughing. I suggest a "no smoking" notice in bold letters should be displayed. - BRONCHITIS."
