Burley Cricket Club's weekend started in dramatic style with fire damage to their wicket covers. At 4am on Saturday a local resident saw flames coming from the centre of the pitch but fortunately there was limited damage as the fire extinguished itself.
The Burley club's secretary Brian Wheeler said: "There was a strange feature to the pitch from the melted plastic but there was not enough to damage the pitch and the scheduled match was able to be played.
"This is second serious arson attack in the village and the damage at the club was fortunately not as serious as that recently experienced at the Roundhouse."
"It is disturbing that there is someone in the community that has an interest in arson but fortunately only property, not person has been the victim of these attacks. Keighley police would welcome any information relating to this latest incident as well as the previous attack."
