THE fate of Skipton's historic county Court building will be decided soon.
The building is being sold and county court cases moved to the magistrates' court further down Otley Street. Tenders have to be with estate agents Dacre, Son and Hartley by noon today (Friday).
The building, which dates from 1856, has been used as a court for many decades and incorporates a court room, judges chambers and general office facilities.
It would lend itself well to conversion for any number of purposes, but the future owners will require planning approval for any change of use.
Jeff Crabtree, of Dacre, Son & Hartley's Skipton office, said: "Interest in the Skipton County Court building has been high.We have sent details out to approximately 250 interested parties and the open viewings we have hosted have been very well attended.
"Generally I think that prospective buyers are keen to acquire an individual building with undoubted character, a distinctive name tag and a 'built-in' slice of history.
"I am sure that local people will be very interested to see what becomes of this important, community building. Luckily, they will not have to wait too much longer to find out."
