Silsden Park Rangers 8 Victoria Vikings 16 - Silsden Park Rangers completed their season on Saturday finishing fourth in Pennine League Division Two, the highest ever finish for the club.
The season was wrapped up with a home game against Victoria Vikings. The first 20 minutes saw Silsden spend the majority of the time in their own half as the visitors piled on the pressure. Outstanding defensive performances from John Williams, Neil Jordan and Mark Ives kept the Pudsey side at bay. However it was only a matter of time before the Vikings broke through, firstly with an unconverted try and again just at the stroke of half time to take them into a 10-0 lead at the break.
Silsden came out after the interval looking the better side and were able to open their tally with a penalty awarded just in front of the posts and Williams made sure of the points. Again the game moved back to stalemate but this time it was Silsden who had the upper hand with impressive drives from forwards Martyn Fryers, Rick Greenwood and man of the match Eddie Billing.
The Cobbydalers got to within two points of Vic Vikings when Matt Bowness opened up a gap and laid the ball off to the supporting Billing who had to fight through covering tackles to score. Williams added the extras.
Silsden tried to get back on level terms but time was against them and when the powerful Vikings winger ran in at the corner for a converted try the game was sealed. Rangers held their end of season dinner at Steeton Hall where the Top Tackler award went to John Williams with over 400 tackles during the season.
Player of the Year was forward Martyn Fryers and Matt Bowness picked up both the Young Player and Most Improved Player trophies.
The Top Point Scorer was Andy Bowness and the Players' Player award was shared by John Williams and Danny Horne.
Clubman of the Year was Peter Fell.
