HOLDERS Embsay made it through to the second round of the Cowling Cup with a nine wicket win at the expense of 10 man Foulridge.
Foulridge made 93-7 in their 45 overs with Warren Whitaker top scoring on 30 as the wickets were shared between four bowlers. With the weather threatening, the home side dashed to victory in the 15th over with Brian Hodgson clattering his way to 55no and Paul Barwick making 29.
Oakworth were equally impressive winners at Pendle Forest III. The home side were brushed aside for just 37 with Michael Davison taking 5-7 and R Ellis 3-15. The latter followed this with 23no to see the Cure Hill side safely into the second round by eight wickets.
Barrowford were in fine fettle at home to Cowling, winning by 100 runs.
There was an exciting game over at Chatburn where Keighley TC were the visitors. The Ribblesdale side made a solid 178-5 with Rod Booth scoring 55no and Mark Braithwaite 47 scoring the bulk of the runs. Dean Woolley with 3-44 was the most successful bowler. The Keighley side looked set for victory at 97-1 but collapsed to 160 all out. Ian Copsey top scored with 78 as A Zulfi took 4-45.
Thornton switched their game to Haworth and came away impressive winners by six wickets.
The Bronte side, batting first, made a solid 151 as Richard Cockell claimed 4-22 in 11 overs and Steve Laycock 3-11. Laycock followed this with 41 before veterans John Roughton 31no and Jeff Tipler 24no took the Booth Bridge Lane side to victory.
Long Lee must have been quietly confident after making an impressive 195-7 at home to Skipton CI. Paul Stowell top scored with 90 but the Sandylands side stormed to a superb six wicket win with Nigel Carr 67no and John Stuttard 22no.
Pendle Forest II go through after Sutton were unable to raise a side.
Two games spilled over to Monday night due to the weather. At Ingrow, Cullingworth batted first and scored 228-9 with Andy Hodgson making 121no. In reply Ingrow made 79 with R Hogg taking 5-22.
At Cononley, Glusburn went first and made 178. After struggling to 45-3 off 20 overs, the home side made a determined effort but finished 35 short of their target.
This Sunday sees the second round of the Wynn Cup: Cowling v Denholme; Foulridge v Glusburn; Barrowford v Thornton and Pendle Forest v Haworth.
