A Bradford business's order books are set to bloom - all thanks to the Chelsea flower show.

Asgard Secure Steel Storage - an off-shoot of office furniture business Flexiform - displayed its garden security products - and is now beginning to reap the rewards.

The products, strong steel cabinets aimed at keeping thieves off garden tools and wares, was well received at Chelsea and now the orders are coming in.

The Thornbury company has utilised more than 30 years of steel storage manufacturing experience and invested more than £1 million in new equipment to develop the new products.

The Secure Steel Storage uses tough galvanised steel and a range of security features to prevent attempted break-ins.

Luke Borwick, managing director of Flexiform Business Furniture Ltd and Asgard Secure Steel Storage, said: "We have had a number of orders, for both domestic and light commercial use, in the past two or three days."

Mr Borwick said the business was helping to secure jobs at its Leeds Road base - with Flexiform and Asgard employing 100 people.

And he hoped it may lead to new jobs in the future.

Flexiform - which has an annual turnover of around £9 million - has been hit by job losses and restructuring because of tough time in the office furniture sector.

"It has been the hardest three years in the office furniture market that anyone can remember," he said.

And it was that downturn that meant Flexiform decided to branch out into the garden security market.

It has taken the company a year to secure a vital Loss Prevention Certification Board grading meaning its cabinets are deemed to meet stringent security targets.

And it has been licensed by Secure By Design - a body run by the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Mr Borwick said all future products would have the strong branding.

"And new products are in the pipeline," he said.

The orders emanating from the appearance at Chelsea - which garnered interest from Ilkley's own Alan Titchmarsh - was a great reward for the hard work made.

He said: "There is always a certain amount of risk when a company makes a dramatic change of direction, but we have discovered a niche in the home security market, which can be of real benefit to our Bradford operation.

"We received a marvellous response from people attending the Chelsea Flower Show including the BBC who featured the range on its evening show on BBC2 with Alan Titchmarsh and Rachel de Thame."

And he added: "We can now really look to the future and build upon this initial success to continue the tradition of Yorkshire manufacturing excellence."
