An angry residents' group has attacked the cost of keeping Bradford Metro's "chain gang" in civic splendour. Bradford Residents' Federation has urged that the £81,200 now spent on the civic team team should be drastically cut. The members accuse Bradford Metropolitan Council of being at " the height of irresponsibility" by increasing the money spent on the civic team by £5,000.

There has been an exceptional demand in Bradford for the four new double-size Coronation stamps which were issued today. Post Office officials at the GPO in Forster Square told the Telegraph & Argus that a queue formed before the Post Office opened but this was quickly cleared. Biggest sales were of the new 1s. 3d. air mail stamp and the smaller denominations of 2d. and 4d.
