Harrogate's Graham Jarvis won his second world trials championship event of the year at rain-swept Montegi, Japan on Sunday, beating Saturday's victor Takahisa Fujinami and world champion Dougie Lampkin.
The fourth round of the FIM World Championship bore the brunt of a forecasted typhoon on Saturday which turned the steep muddy hills surrounding the Grand Prix circuit into an impossible nightmare.
Sunday dawned even worse, with heavy rain persisting throughout the day.
Lampkin, of Silsden, now heads the title battle on equal points with Fujinami while Jarvis has climbed to joint third place.
Albert Cabestany, Marc Colomer, and Adam Raga did not bother to travel to Japan, probably because their hope of a title vanished after they were suspended on disciplinary grounds.
Charnock teenager Shaun Morris won both Junior Cup events and now heads that category after his weekend double victory. Burnley's Mika Vesterinen scored points on both days.
The British competitors and assistants wore black arm bands in memory of Baildon TT legend David Jefferies, whose Isle of Man death affected all present.
Lampkin made no impression on Fujinami on Saturday. It was home-town knowledge and his unwavering determination to win in front of his fans that propelled 'Fujigas' to make joint best performance with Jarvis, who has exceptional skills on muddy surfaces.
"I had too many failures, too many mistakes. I failed section four on lap two then the observer at the last section failed me, though I did disagree with that penalty," said Lampkin.
