Jamie Peacock and Stuart Fielden were narrowly overlooked for the Yorkshire captaincy - on the advice of their club coach.
At a press conference at Odsal yesterday, White Rose coach Graham Steadman unveiled Danny Orr as skipper for the Origin clash on July 2.
But the Tigers coach also revealed how the two Bulls stars were in contention to follow in the footsteps of Jimmy Lowes, captain in 2001.
Only the advice of Bradford's and last year's Yorkshire coach Brian Noble dissuaded him from giving the armband to either Peacock or Fielden on their home turf.
"I was seriously considering both players with a view to having Danny as vice-captain but Brian thought it might be a little bit too much for them, especially in the case of Stuart, who is coming back from a long-term injury," revealed Steadman, who took over from Noble for this year's one-off clash against favourites Lancashire.
Lancashire, inevitably, will be captained by Wigan and Great Britain skipper Andy Farrell, who has led the Red Rose men to victory in all three county clashes since they were revived in 2001.
Orr, who had to be helped off the Odsal pitch with concussion last month after taking a late hit from Leon Pryce, is looking forward to returning to the ground.
"Odsal is one of the best grounds in the league and the atmosphere will be awesome," he said. "These are the games you want to play in."
Meanwhile Steadman said he has already included "one or two surprise selections" in a provisional 22-man squad, which will be finalised in time for an announcement on June 24.
