THE number of passengers using Leeds Bradford International Airport has broken records once again.
Last month, 200,909 passengers used the airport - more than 37 per cent higher than May last year and more than 20 per cent higher than the last monthly record. Low cost airline Jet2 was responsible for 21 per cent of the total passengers, with Ryanair responsible for nine per cent, and FlyBe, which flies to Belfast, taking five per cent of the total number of passengers.
Ed Anderson, the airport's managing director, said: "This is a most exciting time in Leeds Bradford's history. A 37.5 per cent year on year increase in traffic demonstrates the massive demand for flights from Leeds Bradford from right across the region.
"Furthermore, the fact that around 35 per cent of our passengers are now able to fly with low cost carriers illustrates the way in which Leeds Bradford has reinvented itself. We are now able to offer a wide range of services from low cost carriers, holiday flights with all the major charter airlines, plus full service scheduled flights with airlines like bmi british midland, KLM and Eastern Airways."
A postponed meeting of Leeds Bradford Airport Community Forum will take place next Tuesday at Yeadon Town Hall from 7.30pm.
