FAMILY and friends gathered to wish May Heron a happy 100th birthday.
Mrs Heron, who lives at Ashcroft House, Bramhope, received a telegram and a birthday card from the Queen and was given a china brooch by outgoing Otley Mayor Gerard Francis on behalf of the Lord Mayor of Leeds.
Mrs Heron, formerly of Sowerby Bridge, moved to Bramhope two years ago to live with her son, Donald Heron, a dairy farmer.
Angela Woodhead, manager at Ashcroft House, said Mrs Heron had been joined by her large family for her birthday last Friday.
"She had an absolutely fantastic day and was very impressed with the mayor who gave her a bone china brooch of the white rose of Yorkshire.
"She had a lovely day and had cake and champagne and her favourite song is Land of Hope and Glory so we finished up with that," she said.
Mrs Heron lived independently until just two years ago. Mrs Woodhead added: "She's very well and takes no medication at all. She gets a little bit tired, but no more than you'd expect.
