An avid climber is set to be one of this year's many visitors to Mount Everest after becoming the latest recipient of money from the Simon Turner-Bottomley Trust.

Matthew Jagger, 21, was presented with £200 by the trust as part of his fundraising towards the expedition to Everest, which starts on September 28.

The donation was the latest in Matthew's bid to raise £2,600 to take part in a two-week trek to the Everest base camp.

Matthew, from Haworth, said: "I am a climber and a mountaineer and I would love to climb Everest one day. But to actually go to the base camp is a dream.

"It is an ambition of mine to climb Everest and I would love to climb it if I could get sponsored.

"I try to go climbing every weekend, especially in the winter, particularly to local areas, Scotland and Wales."

Matthew, an assistant site manager at Oakbank School, said he was thrilled with the support he had been given.

He said: "I am just so happy with this award. I have got to raise a total of £2,600 and this is a great help."

The Simon Turner-Bottomley Trust helps to fund youngsters' outdoor pursuit activities, such as climbing and walking. It was set up in 1997 after the death of Simon Turner-Bottomley, from Haworth, in a mountaineering accident on the Matterhorn, in Switzerland.

Simon's widow, Marolyn said: "We want to support this young man in his bid and in what he is doing.

"He seems a really nice young man and he is very enthusiastic."
