STUDENTS are helping a Silsden church to stage a three-day flower festival.
Called 'Reflections', the event will be at the village Methodist Church from tomorrow until Sunday.
The colourful occasion will have two themes. The main displays by the Keighley College's flower arrangers, will reflect on the Christian festival of Pentecost, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Ghost on Jesus' Apostles.
Students who are working for the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies diploma in floral art and design at the college and tutor Anne Kennedy will be responsible for the Pentecostal displays.
The Keighley link has come about because the college runs courses in the Silsden church's Schoolroom.
Colin Hyde, of the church, said: "What a happy coincidence that the students of Keighley College need to display their art work as a kind of final exam to complete their course, There will be top class displays interpreting aspects of the Pentecost."
"A smaller exhibition in the church parlour, will portray and explain some of Silsden's many industries of yesteryear, ranging from nail-making to textiles. The historical reflections will be the work of Silsden Methodists and their friends.
The aim is to raise money for the church's building fund, which so far stands at £81,000. Leukaemia Research will also benefit as this is the charity supported by the Baker's Half Dozen - members of the calendar girls from Rylstone WI).
There is also a unique opportunity to hear music performed by a range of local and guest musicians who will provide music throughout the weekend, and the Sunday evening will also feature a 'Songs of Praise' service.
Loans of photographs and other illustrative items are being sought to accompany the displays of Silsden's old industries.
Attendance at the opening evening tomorrow is limited to 100 people. Tickets costing £5 each, which include buffet and programme, are available from Gold Rose Florists 11 Briggate Silsden.
Alternatively, people can call (01535) 657307 for further information. The festival will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and from 1pm to 5pm on the Sunday.
