IN the Dales Council League a superb eight for 58 return by Hawskworth slow bowler Ken Clayton saw Old Modernians put out for 124. He bemused the Modernians batsmen as they fell seven runs short of the Hawksworth score of 131 for seven.

Menston side Crompark batted first at home to Mount and made steady progress with a stand of 71 for the first wicket before Phil Cooper was bowled for 35.

Akmal was dismissed in a similar fashion soon after for 33 but Zaheer smashed his way to 55 including 4 sixes and a single four.

Amjad batted well for 32 and the tail wagged to take the total to 202 after 41.5 overs, when the declaration came.

Mount lost an early wicket to the bowling of Steve Jeffery before a strong second wicket partnership of 80 between Karolia (53) and Khan (34).

The rest of the Mount batsmen found the bowling attack difficult and closed on 169 for eight after 48 overs.

Steve Jeffery finished with 5-45 from 15 overs, and Amjad obtained the fielding point.

In Sunday's Pool Paper Mills Cup second round game Crompark visited Pudsey Congs and captain Steve Thompson elected to bat.

Leading from the front he smashed four boundaries and a single before losing his wicket in cavalier fashion attempting to progress the run rate.

The remainder of the team followed suit providing runs to post a total of 179 all out.

The bowlers were very well backed up by the fielders, and the hosts were pegged back to 19 for three from 12 overs, with Koram being the pick of the bowling with three wickets from six maiden overs.

The change bowlers, Nick Lawson and Amjad both bowled supremely, Lawson bowling his eight overs for 16 taking three wickets and Amjad (2-25) from his allocation.

As the wickets continued to fall, Pudsey Congs resorted to throwing the bat, and were eventually dismissed for 73 to put Crompark into the second round.

Visiting Pudsey Congs Crompark second team captain Andy Halliday elected to bat. Steady progress was made with Keith Duckett (26) holding the top of the innings together.

Part-time umpire Keith Ellis made a rare start and scored a splendid unbeaten 81 and together with John Farrar (21no) put on 68 for the eighth wicket to leave Crompark with a total of 188 for seven.

The Congs innings started badly for them with Barry Foster bowling Maddison with the first ball of the innings.

Medd set about steadying the Congs innings with some lusty blows before finally being bowled by Crompark's own Aussie Andy Hawthorne.

At 107 for six in the 27th over the game was finely poised before S Rastrick and J Jones built a fine partnership with 44no and 32no respectively with some helpful fielding from Crompark and some fortunate shot placements.

They reached the required total comfortably with two overs to spare.

In the Cawthorne Cup on Sunday Crompark seconds beat Baildon Meths in a replay of last year's Cawthorne Cup Final. This first round fixture again produced another thrilling game.

The day started disappointingly with no umpires turning up. Both captains agreed that with plenty of experienced players on both sides that a good fair game could still take place.

Batting first, the Crompark innings made slow but steady progress. Peter Clarke sticking around for more than 20 overs for a hard-earned 24.

The fifth wicket partnership of 49 between Ian Eccleshall and Paul Stamp took the score along to a more respectable score before Eccleshall was bowled for 25.

Stamp continued his fine innings and was finally out for 38. The Crompark innings finally finished on 136 for seven from the 40 overs, 20 runs or so shy of the desired target.

The Baildon openers' game-plan was to score quickly but some fine fielding from Ben Whitaker, Paul Stamp and John Farrar kept Crompark in the game.

With the wickets falling at regular innings Crompark were back in with a chance. Eccleshall came back to clear up the tail taking three wickets in two overs. Ben Whitaker with 2-20, Barry Foster 2-15 and Ian Eccleshall 3-18 were the pick of the bowlers.
