Second Division Pendle Forest knocked over First Division Haworth at Fence in the Wynn Cup.
The home side were dismissed for a modest 97 with Jason Bracewell top scoring on 25 as Derek Bright took 3-19 and Jamie Rowell 3-28. The Red Rose side snapped back with vengeance and quickly reduced the Bronte side to 11-5, from there it was all downhill as they crashed to 38 all out and a humiliating defeat. Nick Daniel was the destroyer in chief with 7-22, five victims bowled, aided by Andy Townsend who took 2-15.
Cowling's Keith Woodhead (pictured) took full advantage of being dropped early on, as he plundered 142no off the luckless Denholme attack. The side finished on a massive 271-3 with Martyn Dalby chipping in with 41. Denholme were never in the hunt and closed on 122 thanks mainly to Chris Hoyle who finished with 5-43. Phil Poole top scored with 40.
At Foulridge there was an excellent cut and thrust game with Glusburn who were struggling at 123-7 with eight overs to go, before some tail wagging got them to a very respectable 176 at the close of their innings. Mick Baxter top scored, for the second day running, with 42 and Phil Shackleton made 24. Tom Stephenson 4-20 and Dave Wallbank 3-39 were the pick of the bowlers.
The Noyna side stuck to their task and romped home by three wickets, they were ably led by Chris Gildea with 65 and John Lickess 34no. Simon Hagerty with 3-37 tried to stem the tide but to no avail
At Barrowford, the Bull Holme side batted first and rattled up 198-7 in their overs with Ajmal Choudry scoring 78 and Liam Roberts 32. Ian Clarkson was the best bowler finishing with 3-26. Visitors Thornton were always off the pace despite a bright start and they went down by 39 runs. Richard Craddock top scored with 51no as Farouk Shaezed took 3-37 and Glen Hargreaves 3-36
The draw for the third round on Sunday June 22 is: Gargrave v Oakworth, Cowling v Foulridge, Bradley v Ingrow St John's and Barrowford v Pendle Forest.
Airedale batted first in their Cowling cup clash with Bradley and rattled up 175-6. Veterans Trevor Cox and Paul Feather scoring 52 and 34 respectively. In reply the division four leaders Bradley were going along quite well when Andy Curtis was run out for 36. Mick Hall followed for 48 and the side collapsed to 128 all out. Rizwan 4-31 and Aslam 4-34 dong the damage.
Airedale now play away at Pendle Forest in the third round at the end of June.
This Sunday sees the second round of the Cowling Cup. The games are: Ingrow St John's v Embsay, Chatburn v Thornton, Denholme v Oakworth and Skipton CI v Barrowford.
