BOTH inter-district teams are in action today to launch another hectic weekend for local bowlers.

The Veterans will be hoping to build on their improved result against Leeds when they take on Wakefield this afternoon (Friday). The home leg is at Keighley Bowling club.

The senior team face their toughest match of the season when they play Huddersfield tonight at 7pm, the home leg is at Cononley when the locals will be hoping to extend their good run in the event.

The Craven Classic also continues tonight after reaching the second round stage. Hero of the first round as Garry Foster (Cross Roads) who qualified by defeating double Yorkshire and Waterloo champion Graham Wilson of Oldham, who is rate by many as the No1 in the game today, by a comfortable 21-11.

The Yorkshire Cup continues on Saturday with Cross Roads facing Batley Taverners at Ladyhill where they have every chance of success. Oakworth face a tough battle against Armley Conservatives at Bradley and Colne. Devon face Pontefract at Wyke.

In the Henry Taylor Cup Broughton Road meet Horton Park and should progress at Greenroyd.

The Ryecroft Trophy qualifying rounds continue on Sunday when the Hebden Bridge Merit is also played to a finish.

Colin Wartley won the Hebden Bridge Veterans' Handicap, defeating Maurice Ormerod of Mytholmroyd BC 21-14.

Qualifiers in the Hills Supplies handicap and the Yorkshire Finals are Les Foster (Skipton Devon) and Phil Anderson (Keighley). The final is on June 22.

Entries are invited for the Ladies Talbot Trophy which has a new sponsor for 2003 in the leading crown green bowls magazine Along the Edges. Editor Mike Duckworth said that he was pleased to support the competition which is held at the Raikes Hall Hotel, Blackpool, on Sunday June 29.

There will be total prize money of £700, with the winner picking up £250. Janice Gower is running the competition on the day and is looking for 64 entries at £8 per player. Starting at 10am the competition is again a one-day event.
