Bradford City today played down a link with Crewe defender Dave Walton.

Internet stories claimed that the 31-year-old, who left Gresty Road at the end of last season, has been in talks with the Bantams.

But chairman Gordon Gibb said: "While I couldn't categorically say that nobody has inquired about him, he is not someone we are seriously discussing.

"There are any number of players that Nicky Law may have looked at or had watched and maybe someone has spoken to his agent. But we're not talking about him being an imminent signing."

Walton, pictured, has played 171 games in six years for Crewe and was a key part of their Second Division promotion campaign.

Having snared Alan Combe in goal, City are concentrating their efforts at bringing in new players for all areas.

Gibb said: "Our priority was a recognised keeper with a certain pedigree and well tested at first team level. Alan represents that very well.

"But there is still the issue of another keeper as well as other positions. We are juggling many balls in the air.

"There are a couple that are very close. But if you try to rush things through and talk too positively, it can put the agreement in jeopardy.

"With Alan wanting to come here, it made the negotiation relatively simple. Others are more complex because the players don't know as much about this club and so it can take time.

"We've got to be patient in the 11th hour with those type of talks."

l Bradford City Youth team have won through to today's semi-finals of the 26th International Youth Tournament in Hamm, Germany.

Danny Ellis scored the only goal of the game in the 31st minute against SC Preuen Mnster.
