Eugene Lacy last night ruled himself out of the running to take over from the sacked Martin Haresign as manager of UniBond Division One side Farsley Celtic.

The former first team boss of the Throstle Nest outfit was on a social visit to the club and was adamant that he wanted to distance himself from rumours suggesting he would replace Haresign.

"I have been approached by members of the club, not the hirers and firers but influential people, to apply for the job and bring Kim Farrand back here with me," said Lacy who was running the Celts reserve side up to the end of the season before last.

Lacy, pictured, has built his credentials up with a promising six-month stint in charge of Northern Counties East Premier Division near-neighbours Liversedge. Having proven his ability to operate successfully on a shoestring budget he is regarded as a prime candidate to return to the cash-strapped club he served for many years.

But he said, "I wouldn't be interested if they came directly to me and offered me the post.

"Why would I want to go back to the club that I have left when I have made a good step forward by joining Liversedge? It wouldn't appeal to me and I'm sure Faz (Farrand) feels the same.

"It is a delicate time and I want to assure the people who have shown so much faith in me at Sedge that I'm committed to Clayborn and want to finish the work I have started there."
