The Football Association today stressed that it is Nicky Law and not Bradford City that is under investigation.

Officials at the club are known to have been angered at national press reports implying that the FA are looking into financial irregularities at the club, something a spokesman for the national association today cleared up.

"It is an investigation into the relationship between Nicky Law and a players' agent following a complaint made by an unnamed player," confirmed a spokesman.

"That is the focus of the Football Association in this. There is no investigation into financial irregularities at the club or by the manager."

It is understood that were Law found to be in breach of any FA or FIFA regulations over his dealings with the agent Mark Curtis, he would be punished as an individual and the club would not be subject to any penalties, financial or otherwise.

The FA spokesman said that it was an on-going investigation which they would like to get cleared-up as soon as possible, ideally by the start of the season, and added that there had been some contact between club officials and the FA compliance unit.

No substantial progress is likely to be made until Nicky Law's return from a family holiday in the Caribbean some time next week.

The complaint centres around allegations that Law lent on younger players at the club to sign up with licensed agent Curtis.

Chairman Gordon Gibb has already said that the club will fully co-operate with the FA investigation.
