A lecturer who is accusing Bradford University of racism because he failed to land a top job drew up his own shortlist of candidates - and all were Asian.
Suresh Deman told an employment tribunal in Leeds that of 23 candidates for the position in the university's Project Planning Centre for Development, only four should have been shortlisted - and all were from the Indian sub-continent.
Mr Deman, of London, is pursuing a case of racial discrimination against the university.
But the university's counsel John Cavanar QC, yesterday questioned whether Mr Deman could seriously suggest that only four Asian candidates should be shortlisted.
"Yes, they are more qualified," replied Mr Deman.
Mr Cavanar told the tribunal that Mr Deman, who has pursued 16 separate claims for discrimination against a string of institutions, did not fit the set criteria for the job.
He said the information provided in the eight-page CV and covering letter was "misleading and inaccurate".
Mr Deman has argued that his CV was "a clear-cut case" and of high quality.
Earlier in the hearing, Mr Deman said that his last job was at the University of Greenwich, with which he settled a dispute and the university was ordered to pay him £46,000 after being found guilty of race discrimination and victimisation.
Mr Cavanar said that at times Mr Deman had applied for a job under two names and sometimes used a pseudonym of Phil White.
He said Mr Deman had been considered unsuitable for the job as it was a desirable criteria of the department that the candidate should have a PhD.
"The department was looking for somebody in their early years of their career who looked promising and would hit the ground running," he said.
The hearing continues.
