After the Lord Mayor's parade comes the dust cart - this old saying seems to have come true last weekend. Following the Lord Mayor's gala at Lister Park, there was rubbish strewn alongside the Keighley Road wall. One passing motorist described it as an eyesore and said that schoolchildren were having to walk past on the very outside edge of the kerb and in some places in the roadway.

The closing date for entries in the annual competition sponsored by Keighley Corporation Allotments Committee, which should have been last Monday, has had to be extended by a week. Only 17 out of 950 allotment holders in Keighley have so far entered the competition, compared with the 36 entries last year. Mr T. L. Ashton, the Keighley Parks Superintendent, said he was very disappointed with the response, but could not grumble at the state of the allotments.
